The Auction: Part 2

September 23, 2009

My grandma is your stereotypical grandmother. She cooked, sewed, and quilted. She LOVED to sew and was always sewing something. Usually she had several different projects going at once. One Christmas she made all thirteen grandchildren quillows. I have no idea how long she spent sewing those things but I love mine.

Isn’t it amazing how books can instantly help you relive how you felt when you read them? I loved, loved, LOVED reading The New Junior Classics set when I was on the farm. My grandparents had a huge library of books. When you were in the middle of nowhere Kansas there wasn’t much to do as a child except read, read, read and although there were a ton of books there weren’t a lot that appealed to a child except for these. I remember pouring over every page and soaking in these stories. I won this set in the auction and I was so glad to get them. I can’t wait to start reading these to my daughter soon.

I loved the Little Golden Books, they were some of my favorite stories growing up.

Everywhere we walked in New Orleans had lots of these little trolleys – each one was decorated differently.

What do You Call This?

October 6, 2008

I just got back from a trip this weekend (more on the trip later). If you take as many pictures as I do you’ll inevitably get used to the popular “What are you taking a picture of?” questions by those around you. My wonderful husband has gotten used to this quirky habit and doesn’t usually complain (unless it’s of him) although our friends who joined us on this trip didn’t have the appropriate warning. Yes I’m that girl that’s constantly shooting ANYTHING I find interesting around me. Yes I realize some think I have Chinese blood coursing through me.

I take pictures of a lot of of common things around me for several reasons:
1. Maybe I really love using my camera and will use any excuse?
2. Maybe I don’t always have a sunset, portrait, or gorgeous flower to shoot?
3. Maybe I find beauty in the everyday items that most would pass over?
4. Maybe my aforementioned husband HATES having his picture taken and I don’t have a slave munchkin – I can force my shooting on?

OK so now that we have that out of the way. I promise all of my future posts won’t be of some random item but this isn’t one of those posts.
